Scholarship Opportunities

The Fruitport Education Foundation offers three scholarship opportunities; "Fruitport Education Foundation Scholarship",  "Adam Kieft Memorial Scholarship", and the "Todd Pierce Memorial Scholarship."  Details about each scholarship  and directions for application can be found below.


Fruitport Education Foundation Scholarship

There are two types of scholarships offered, you may only apply for one type of award.  To be eligible, you must be a Fruitport High School Senior.  The Fruitport Eduction Foundation Board of Directors, staff , and their family members are not eligible to apply.  All final candidates will be required to go through an interview process.

Type A - This scholarship type is intended for the applicant who has a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and desires to complete a four year degree program at a Michigan college or university.

Type B - This scholarship type is intended for the applicant who has a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and wishes to pursue an occupation requiring less than a four-year degree.  This includes associate degree programs, vocational programs, LPN, etc.

Directions for Application:

When the application window is open, you may come to this site to download an application.  You must fill out the form completely, print a hard copy, and return it to the Fruitport High School counseling office along with a completed  "Applicant Appraisal" form, and a copy of your official grade transcript.  The additional documents can be  picked up at the counseling office.


Adam Kieft Memorial Scholarship

A $300.00 scholarship is available for qualifying candidates.  To be eligible, you must be a Fruitport High School Senior and share the same interests and ambitions as Adam.  The Fruitport Education Foundation Board of Directors, staff , and their family members are not eligible to apply.  All final candidates will be required to go through an interview process.

Description of Scholarship:
Adam Kieft, a member of the Fruitport High School Class of 2002, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain and spinal cord tumor in the fall of 1996 (While in sixth grade) and courageously battled until March 15, 2003 when his body succumbed to cancer.  In honor of Adam's life, the FHS Class of 2002 established the Adam  Kieft Memorial Scholarship with the help of the Fruitport Education Foundation.

Prior to his illness, Adam was full of energy and enjoyed playing soccer, as well as street and ice hockey.  He had a love of all sports and enjoyed following the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Red Wings.  Adam was involved in his church youth group and after graduation, became a youth leader where he had a special rapport with children.  Adam also loved to tinker with machines and had hoped to be trained as a mechanic.

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must show a desire to work with youth and/or a love for sports and/or be interested in pursuing a certification or degree in mechanics.

Todd Pierce Memorial Scholarship

 A one thousand ($1,000) dollar scholarship is available for qualifying applicants.  Please read the description of the scholarship below before completing this application.  To be eligible, you must be a Fruitport High School Senior and share the same interests and ambitions as Todd.  The Fruitport Education Foundation Board of Directors, staff, and their family members are not eligible to apply.  All final candidates will be required to go through an interview process. 

Description of Scholarship: 
Robert Todd Pierce graduated from Fruitport High School in 1983 and continued his education at Michigan State University where he graduated in 1988 with a degree in business and political science. He further extended his education by taking courses towards a Masters Degree at Western Michigan University.

Todd had a significant interest in the environment and land conservation. While living in Chicago, he was involved with a group who supported Mayor Daley's work of purchasing and planting over 500,000 trees within the city. Todd later moved to New York City and was involved with making movies pertaining to "green" technologies and preservation of land and environment.

Todd died unexpectedly at the young age of thirty-nine leaving behind his parents, Dr. Robert and Virginia Pierce, three siblings ~ Wendy Pierce-Scott, Andrew Pierce, and Kelly Pierce-Hayes, and his son Trevor Todd Pierce. A scholarship was established to honor him and his love for the environment.

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must show an interest in environmental sciences (a branch of science concerned with the physical, chemical, and/or biological conditions of the environment and their effect on organisms).
